The Week that Was and Will Be 1/28

Once a month Hump Day gets a whole lot funnier with the Comedy Showcase at Laguna Beach Beer Company. Fortunately for MC and organizer of the evening and KXFM Morning Host Ed Steinfeld, he has a day job (that’s a joke). His five comics, no holds barred, adults only brand of comedy, is free! The Beer Company sells a large, curated selection of beers and excellent bar food. Laguna Beach Beer Company won "Best Bar Food" in our VIBE/Best of Laguna Beach contest!

The City Hall Chambers were pretty packed on Friday morning for the Downtown Action Plan reveal. Reps from SWA, a local, Urban Planning and Design firm, listed the $10 million dollars worth of projects planned to beautify and add functionality to three downtown city streets. Bagels and coffee were supplied and a mild-mannered Q & A followed.

Congratulations to LCAD Senior Natalie Mayoral for winning the $500 prize for her design of the 15th Annual Grapes For Grads Logo. Natalie thanked the attendees at the Rotary Club Luncheon for the support she's received from LCAD and organizations such as the Rotary Club during her four years at LCAD. 100% of the proceeds from Grapes For Grads goes towards scholarships for graduates of Laguna Beach High School and Laguna College of Art + Design. Purchase your ticket to Grapes XV at GrapesForGrads.com.

It’s been cold and flu season for a while and one sure way to nip it in the bud is to head to the Farmers Market every Saturday from 8am-12pm and stock up on nutritious food. Vitamin C is in abundance from all the varieties of citrus from Jay & Sons, and honey from local bees at Honey Pacifica can be used to relieve sore throats and coughs. Not only is the Fresh Apple Cider from Smit Farms amazingly tasty, its antioxidants prove “An Apple a Day, Keeps the Doctor Away."

It felt like one big party at Mozambique on Saturday Night as there were several Birthday celebrations generating Happy Party VIBES all throughout! Past Action Heroes covered the 80s with a vengeance. Make sure you catch these guys when they play every few months at Mozambique. Check LagunaNow.com regularly for updates.

Sundays from 6:30pm-9pm GG’s Bistro gets cookin' while Beth and Steve Wood entertain you. The food is Turkish/Mediterranean, so lots of flavor and a huge menu to choose from. The Wood's have been a musical tour de force since their early days with the band Honk circa 1970. Friends sat in on Sunday to relieve Beth of her guitar duties since spraining her hand. Bob Hawkins on guitar and vocals and Mike Dauer on percussion. Beth contributed her vocal prowess to the song choices of the evening.
