Thanks for the Memories

Inching my way towards the Irvine Spectrum Off Ramp en route to Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre, I savor the traffic jam because I know it will be my last. After serving as the prime outdoor concert venue for major acts for the last 35 years, this officially closed venue will sadly become a massive housing development of which I will spare you the gory details. Through tidy rows of parked cars, tailgaters and diehard fans in ’80s garb, I hit the box office for tickets to the nearly sold out show. As a farewell gift I’m offered a second row seat in the PIT for face value ($131.00), a small price to pay to be within sweating distance for the final show. I missed Tesla thanks to the traffic but Joe Elliott (pictured) commiserated with fans while sharing his fondness for this stage promising to return to perform for us somewhere, but where exactly, remains to be seen. The Irvine City Council has noted The Great Park as a possible venue site but it’s still just a theory. Hopefully someday I’ll be inching my way along the toll road to get there but until then, I just want to say thanks for the memories Irvine Meadows. It was great while it lasted!
