A Life of Endless Summers: The Bruce Brown Story, was initially slated to be the Opening Night Film for the 21st Newport Beach Film Festival. That is until the pandemic put the festival on hold. THE LOT at Fashion Island in neighboring Newport Beach is an integral part of the annual festival, so they arranged to dedicate the Opening Night of their Summer Drive-In Movie Series and show the film to a sold-out audience. In attendance were the filmmaker, Bruce Brown's son Dana Brown, his children and grandchildren, and many friends and fans of the legendary films his father made. Gregg Schwenk, Founder/CEO of the Newport Beach Film Festival, spoke passionately before the movie about the festival and thanked everyone for their support. He promised the festival would be back when the time was right. Mayor Pro Tem of Newport Beach, Brad Avery, was also on hand to praise the festival and the City of Newport Beach.

Each car was gifted a Fashion Island tote, a $20 THE LOT gift certificate, and a commemorative edition poster designed by Laguna Beach businessman, Troy Lee, numbered 1-500 and signed by Troy Lee and Dana Brown. The film was completed as a tribute to Dana's father after his passing in 2017. Home footage intertwines early days growing up with his dad and a road trip he and his siblings take him on to visit his long time friends; many who set the standards for the industries they excelled in and parlayed into big business. I.E., Hobie Alter, Gordon Clark, Jack O'Neill, and more professional legends of surf and motorsport.

The film is a touching and poignant recount of the remarkable life of a man who was the pioneer of surf films, a daredevil, a father, and a loving husband to Pat, his wife of 46 years until she passed in 2006. He did what he loved, made a successful living from it, and live to tell his story. It was also fun to experience it in a Drive-In Movie setting that harkens back to days when Bruce Brown set out to capture the burgeoning sport of surfing on his 16mm camera.

Enjoy the outdoor setting on the rooftop of the parking structure at Fashion Island with the Summer Drive-In Movie Series at THE LOT. For more info on upcoming films here: https://www.fashionisland.com/events/drive-in-movies
