OC Burger Week in Laguna!

 

On thru Saturday, July 18th, Orange County Burger Week features only three Laguna restaurants, so you still have plenty of time to visit each one!

 

Skyloft's Burger Week Menu has three stellar options plus a side for $20 each.

I never tried "Beyond Meat" so I chose the vegetarian option and was I glad I did. The patty looks, tastes, chews, and drips just like real beef! A full grilled portobello mushroom lays on top, and Swiss cheese melts down the side. Flavors erupt with black peppercorn aioli, pickled onions, and mixed greens.

The ubiquitous brioche bun is a winner because it doesn't dominate what's between it; it serves to enhance and keep it all together. With a choice of three sides I went with the sweet potato fries, and again, I'm glad I did! 

Skyloft is currently serving only on the splendid rooftop. They have all the safety protocols in place but seating is limited. It's worth it to put your name in and cruise around town or walk the boardwalk until they text you.

At Selanne Steak Tavern, burgers (dubbed pucks) are the tastiest pucks you'll ever eat made from their signature blend of Sirloin, Short Rib, and Wagyu beef. Choose from three OC Burger Week burgers plus a side for $15. The "Duck" is not only a play on words for the former Anaheim Ducks hockey player Teemu Selanne turned restauranteur, but for multiple slices of cured duck salami with cherry compote and Oregon blue cheese wrapped up in a Brioche bun. The eye-pleasing Yukon Potato twists in sea salt and house-made Penalty Sauce are equally savory and served on a papered tray, reminiscent of the hockey rink.

Mozambique OC

 

I devoured the classic Steak Burger a few months ago, and I can vouch for the pure satisfaction it delivers, but the Burger Week menu had two other options, so I tried the OC Prego Steak Sandwich. It's a blessed six ounces of beef filet marinated with garlic, lemon, and Maputo herbs. They top it with Provolone cheese, mushrooms, grilled onions, and arugula with Mozambique's house-made Peri-Peri Sauce. The bun is Ciabatta. This departure from the traditional burger was just what I was in the mood for, including the side of Mazavaroo Fries, classic french fries with a kick! Important to note* The "Add a Cocktail" specially crafted for Burger Week features Makers Mark Bourbon at Skyloft and Mozambique. The Skyloft "Add a Cocktail" is the Southern Mule, and Mozambique makes a Roasted Lemon Sour that I enjoyed VERY much!

Maro Wood Grill is not an official participant of OC Burger Week, but since I ate their burger during Burger Week it deserves an honorable mention. This classic burger consists of 10 ounces of grass-fed ground beef, sharp white cheddar, Nueske's applewood smoked bacon, Heirloom tomatoes, red onion, and iceberg lettuce combined for heavenly consumption in a Brioche bun. A side of roasted wedges of creamer potatoes compliments the burger. 

What makes this burger special is the Mesquite wood and charcoal-fired grill that smokes the flavor into the meat and the bun. $19
