Greg Adams and East Bay Soul

Watch legendary performers Greg Adams and East Bay Soul perform on the Festival’s concert green. The sound of Greg Adams is one of the world’s best-known musical signatures. Adams has recorded six solo albums, three releases with East Bay Soul and fourteen recordings as a founding member of Tower of Power. His 1995 debut, Hidden Agenda, went all the way to #1 on Billboard and stayed there for five weeks. With countless collaborations in the studio and live on stage, Adams has made his mark on a broad stretch of today’s music landscape that includes jazz, pop, rock, R&B, soul and funk.


Adult and Teen Art Classes

Watercolors with Christine Sullivan

This is a beginning transparent watercolor class which will cover the basic watercolor techniques and methods. Using these techniques along with some design and composition concepts, students will create their own beautiful landscape painting to take home.

Wine & Painting Nights

Koi Fish with Mike Tauber

Cost: $75 (includes Festival admission)

Uncork your creativity this summer at the Festival of Arts! Enjoy a fun painting workshop, while surrounded by beautiful art. Learn easy step-by-step processes, as taught by noted Festival exhibitor Mike Tauber. Beginners and all levels are invited – take home your finished masterpiece! All supplies and complimentary wine or beverage are included.

Adult and Teen Art Classes

Gouache with Dennis Zervas
Date: Sunday, July 21
Time: 3pm – 5:30pm
Cost: $60 (includes Festival admission)

Learn all about the art of gouache! Gouache is similar to watercolor, but rather than working with transparent washes from light to dark, gouache has a stronger pigment and allows the artist to apply lighter tones on top of darker ones. In this class you’ll learn the basic properties of gouache and explore the fundamental techniques of this unique medium.

Youth Arts Education Workshops

Dates/Times: July 8 – August 16
Mondays – Fridays 1pm & 3pm
Cost: $20+ material fee/session

Bring out that creative spark in your young artist at the Youth Art Classes this summer at the Festival of Arts. Kids will enjoy art classes taught by professional Festival artists in mixed-media, watercolors, collage and more. Meanwhile, parents will have free time to view the artwork on display throughout the Festival grounds. Festival artists will also share some of their creative techniques in a fun and friendly environment that will inspire your kids to come back every week! Open to children ages 5 – 12. Art & Story Time

Art and Story Time is a weekly series for children 5 and under. Every Monday from 12:30 to 1:30pm, enjoy a different book read aloud plus a hands-on art project. Fun for children and their parents! On Monday, July 22, author Cindy Motley will read her book “Ann from Japan.” Somewhere on top of a hill, far away in Japan this sweet imaginative story unfolds of how a young girl’s love for painting pots has such a magical impact on her surroundings. A truly delightful story sure to capture young imaginations with it’s whimsical rhymes, colorful illustrations and a beautiful surprise ending. A story that is uplifting and unforgettable. Author’s note. Do what you love and let the Magic happen!


Portraits on the Green

Dates: Tuesday, July 23
Time: 1 – 2pm
Cost: Free with $10 Festival admission

Watch as Festival of Arts exhibitors paint, sculpt or photograph live models on the Festival’s Concert Stage. This series will focus on how an artists’ interpretation of the same subject matter can vary based on their own unique style and perspectives. Patrons are invited to observe the artists at work for an up-close look at their creative process.


Art Talks and Tea

Whether you’re an informed connoisseur, an amateur collector, or an art lover, join us for fascinating and informative discussions with the Festival of Arts exhibitors at our Art Talks and Tea, sponsored by PBS SoCal. Enjoy tea on the Festival’s green while listening to artists talk about their inspiration, history, and careers in art. On Wednesday, July 24, the topic will be “What Are You Looking At?,” a discussion about viewing art with Festival docents.


Art, Jazz, Wine & Chocolate

Chocolate, wine, and all that jazz sweetens up the Festival of Arts this summer! On Thursday nights, indulge your senses at the Art, Jazz, Wine and Chocolate series. Sample a wide variety of Kendall-Jackson wines expertly selected to compliment and enhance the nuanced flavor of high-end chocolates from Cocoa Parlor. The Festival’s casual and classy outdoor setting, together with the soulful sounds of jazz surrounded by fine art, creates an ideal evening for friends, sweethearts, and family.
Grammy winning keyboardist/composer Gregg Karukas is enjoying the rare accomplishment of 2 consecutive #1 hit songs and THREE TOP 5 chart hits from his stellar 2014 CD release “Soul Secrets”. His 2nd single, “Rio Drive” was named the #1 most played song of 2015 on Alan Kepler’s Smooth Jazz Top 20! (#2 on Billboard’s 2015 airplay chart). Most recently, Gregg has taken his ever present smile and energetic, show around the world to Java Jazz in Jakarta, Manila, Jazztrax Catalina Jazz Festival and The Mallorca (Spain) Smooth jazz festival. One of urban contemporary jazz’s most versatile and acclaimed artists for over 25 years, Gregg won the Grammy for producing, composing, arranging, playing all keyboards and engineering Echoes of Love, which won Best New Age Album at the 55th Grammy Awards in February 2013.

Grab your yoga mat and get ready to flex your creative muscles at the Festival of Arts for “Art and Yoga.” Experienced yoga instructors will guide participants through a relaxing and meditative session outdoors surrounded by fine art. Whether you are brand new to yoga and want to test the waters or an experienced Yogi, all skill levels are welcome.

Explore the art of printmaking at the Festival of Arts! In this class, students will combine paper collaging with a relief plate to take home their own unique, one-of-a-kind fine art monoprint. Step into the Spotlight Music Series

Kleber Jorge
Date: Friday, July 26

On Fridays the Festival brings to center stage some of those amazing voices that are usually seen (and heard) in the background with the music series “Step into the Spotlight.” There’s an extraordinary lineup of back-up singers or background vocalists who will take the stage this summer.
Accomplished studio musician and renowned singer/songwriter/guitarist/vocalist, Kleber Jorge, has been captivating audiences for over two decades. Kleber Jorge, who tours with Sergio Mendes and others, hails from a family rich in musical tradition. His father, a bass player and music instructor was a major influence in Kleber’s musical education in their native Brazil. Kleber studied classical guitar, cello and voice as well as music theory and harmony at the Escola de Musica UFRDJ (Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro). Prior to moving to Los Angeles, he performed in Rio’s hottest night clubs. His debut solo CD Voltar Pro Rio (Back to Rio) produced by Dori Caymmi for Sonic Images is a favorite of Brazilian jazz fans throughout the world. His vocals are described as masterful, soulful and capturing the essence of Brazilian emotion.


Pints, Pinots and Prints

Date: Friday, July 26
Time: 8:30 – 10pm
Cost: $75 (includes Festival admission)

Create a beautiful one-of-a-kind print with Festival exhibitor Vinita Voogd! Using a variety of colorful handmade papers and hand cut relief blocks, students will learn the basics of monoprint and overprint techniques in this creative printmaking class. Beginners and all levels are invited – take home your finished masterpiece! All supplies and complimentary wine or beverage are included. For adults 21 and up.
