Paul and Tracy Welsh of The British Hair Company, came from England to Laguna Beach 15 years ago to live the American dream and the Southern California lifestyle. Unfortunately, in recent weeks the dream has turned into a bit of a nightmare. With true bulldog spirit, they are keeping a positive attitude and looking forward to a bright future outlook when they can return to serving their guests.

They are in a holding pattern with no specific guidance from Governor Newsom as to when they will be allowed to reopen, so they are using this time to prepare. Paul says, “Our guests know we already have a reputation for being a scrupulously clean salon; it's not like we are starting from scratch. The new protocols mandated by the State of California for reopening will be followed to the letter, and upgrades to our floor plan in many cases exceed what is required to increase comfort and distance in our new normal." Fortunately, the salon is extremely spacious and the open plan will make social distancing easy to achieve. "Combined with the additional cleaning regime, PPE and limiting the foot traffic in the salon means we will be able to provide a safe and enjoyable experience every day, for every client," explained Paul.

What to do in the meantime? Paul advises, " 'Embrace the gray' as they say and know that you are not alone in this endeavor. Unfortunately, our greatest strength under normal circumstances is currently one of our biggest challenges. For each client Aveda Color is custom mixed. It does not come out of a one size fits all tube like many other color brands. The color technique is so specific it is like comparing Picasso, who mixed to create his colors, to paint-by-numbers. In our view, it's better to leave the color as is, tie back your hair, wear a cute scarf or hat rather than apply an inconsistent tone to your roots as there is a high probability you will end up having to spend more money and time to correct any mistakes. Besides, unprocessed 'naked hair' is more natural to work with and the results will be better than ever. DO not allow a stylist to visit you at home solely for safety reasons. Home visits only invite possibilities for infection and please bear in mind there are also huge liability issues in play. With most salons and stylists having liability and workers compensation insurance suspended at this time puts their licenses in jeopardy."

If you are really in need of a quick fix, a great temporary solution is to follow these steps to camouflage the roots by Aveda's Global Artistic Director of Makeup, Janell Geason. Pop over for a quick video on BritishHC's Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/BritishHC/ it's something everyone can do at home without risking damage or major mistakes.

They look forward to the return to the new normal, hopefully sometime in June. Give them a call with any questions you have; they are glad to help with suggestions during the extended mandated shutdown.
