Band of the Month: Sonic Boom

Influences: The Beatles, The Faces, The Rolling Stones, Hanoi Rocks, Muddy Waters, The Clash, Bob Dylan, Alice Cooper, Thelonious Monk, Johnny Cash, Louis Armstrong.

Roots: Guitarist Jo 'Dog' Almeida (Dogs D’Amour) emerged from the '80s London glam rock scene, and Paul Mars Black (L.A. Guns, Black Cherry) was immersed in Americana, blues and early rock n’ roll influences growing up in Northern California. They converged on the '80s LA punk rock scene and formed a musical bond to this day.

Awards/Accolades: Paul’s time fronting and writing songs for L.A. Guns produced two platinum certified records. He's a skilled and multi-faceted drummer/percussionist. He recently graduated with honors receiving his degree from Cal Sate Northridge in Film Composition. Jo’s success with English rock band The Dogs D’amour garnered global status, sold out tours, and sales of over 2 million records. He has toured with the likes of Alice Cooper, Kiss, Iggy Pop, and The Black Crowes. His artistry can be seen on the Dogs' album covers and he is currently
creating artwork for Sonic Boom.

We like: Original songs including "Everyone Rains on My Parade” and its video on YouTube. Expect the album release of original songs in May. Take a sneak listen at PaulMarsBlack.com.

February gigs: Hennessey’s Tavern Sat. 2nd and Mozambique Fri. 8th and Sat. 23rd.
