Ask Gigi Rice and Alice Hernandez-Gaona to show you around their gallery and you’ll be shown realistic paintings inspired by the Dutch masters, impressionist works and unique contemporary paintings along with multi-media pieces.
Both Alice and Gigi came to painting somewhat late in life. Alice worked in sales for more than two decades and Gigi was an actress working in TV and film. They decided to re-invent themselves as artists after meeting serendipitously in a painting workshop in 2008.
They quickly became best friends and spent their time together gallery hopping, golfing, and applauding one another for awards won for their detailed paintings. Six years later, in November 2014, they found the perfect location to open their own gallery on North Coast Hwy. in Laguna Beach.
In their gallery’s early months they exhibited artwork reflecting their own artistic styles—colorful figurative paintings inspired by old masters, much in contrast to most of the art in other Laguna Beach galleries.
Over time friends began suggesting Alice and Gigi show a variety of art styles so they began to diversify.
Today, Alice-Rice Gallery is filled with artworks bright in colors in a range of complimentary styles. It’s like walking into a garden of earthly delights! Come to their reception for artist Leigh Erceg‘s “Acquired Savant Syndrome,” Saturday, February 27, 5-9 PM.
